A State-Level Conference on the theme “Cooperatives for Sustainable Development” was successfully organised by the National Yuva Cooperative Society Limited (NYCS) in collaboration with the Department of Cooperation, Government of Assam. The conference featured seven technical sessions, focusing on the role of cooperatives in economic growth, sustainability, and skill development.
Shri Hitesh Kewalramani, Assistant Director, National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), delivered a session on the Journey of Cooperatives in India, highlighting their evolution and contribution to nation-building. Shri Shyamal Kumar Saikia, Assistant Cooperative Education Officer, Assam State Cooperative Union, spoke on the Essentiality of Pre-Registration Training for Cooperative Members, emphasizing capacity building at the grassroots level.
Shri Hemanta Kumar Das, Director (i/c), Institute of Cooperative Management, Guwahati (Government of India), shared insights on the Importance of Cooperative Management Education. Dr. Pranab Kumar Nath, Assistant Manager (Supply Chain & Logistics), Assam Bio Ethanol Private Limited (ABEPL), Numaligarh, presented on Bamboo Energy Farming, the Emerging Bio-Economy Scenario, and Its Prospects.
Shri Dhiman Sandilya, Assistant, and Shri Usham S. Singh, Senior Field Officer, Spice Board of India, elaborated on Export Promotion in the Spice Sector in North East India and the SPICED Scheme. Shri Hara Kanta Baro, Regional Director, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government of India, discussed Opportunities in the Handicraft Sector for Cooperative Members. Shri Amrit Kumar Das, Regional Head, Agriculture Skill Council of India, highlighted the Importance of Agriculture Skilling in Assam.
Members of various cooperative societies actively participated in the sessions and expressed that they were highly inspired and benefited from the valuable insights shared by the experts.
