The State of Maharashtra is known to be a progressive state with eadership in the field of education. Keeping with this rich tradition the School Education Department under the dynamic leadership of Hon. Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnvis and Hon. Minister of Education Shri. Vinod Tawde has once again thought of bringing a change in the lives of the many young students who are deprived of an opportunity to fulfill their dreams due to lack of success in grade 10 examinations. With this initiative of Kaushalya SETU (Self Employment and Talent Utilization) Programme, the dream of “Pragat Shaikshanik Maharashtra”, where no child is left behind is about to come true in the true sense. NYCS has been entrusted with the responsibility of being the training partner and we have already begun the mission.

Kaushalya Setu Abhiyan was launched on 19th October 2016 in Mumbai. Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy Jee (Hon. Minister of Skill Development), Shri Devendra Fadnavis (CM, Maharashtra), Shri Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar( Hon, Minister of Skill Development, Maharashtra), Shri Vinod Tawde (Hon. Education Minister, Govt. of Maharashtra) were the chief dignitaries. The Principals, coordinators of all the training centers attended the launch ceremony.

For whatever reasons a student fails in his tenth grade exam, be it lack of interest, health issues, or psychological and economic reasons, repeated failure in exams affects the self-confidence in the child, his acceptability in society and family and his overall well-being. The child then gets depressed or careless and unconcerned and may go astray and taking up wrong paths. The families of these students also have to face a lot of trauma and find it difficult to get the child back into the mainstream.

At NYCS, We want to tap the potential of each child who is considered a failure and converting him or her as an asset by empowering them with an avenue to discover the hidden skills in them through a skill based programme.

Government of Maharashtra now conducts a supplementary SSC exam for those who could not clear it in first attempt. Students who clear this supplementary exam are eligible to appear for the junior college re-admission rounds and continue his/her education without wasting a year. But for those who have unfortunately failed even the second attempt at SSC examinations, the mark sheet still does not use the “failed” tag, but credits the mark sheet with a remark “eligible for skill development”.

With the view of not wasting an academic year for these students, a six month skill development course structure is introduced to them at the end of which they get a certificate for the skill acquired. An aptitude test is conducted for the students before admitting them to the programme to find out their inclination towards any particular  interest and presenting them with career options that would aptly reflect their abilities.

This six month curriculum emphasizes more on practical knowledge and has 80% weightage to practicals and 20% weightage to theory, thus making them fit for employment immediately.

Being designed for the students failed in 2016 SSC exams, NYCS wants to give an equal opportunity to the SSC drop outs from earlier years too as it believes that education is a fundamental human right and should be available to everyone who wants to exercise it. With Kaushalya Setu, one can re-start his/her journey towards a better and secured future with dignity and worth. The program makes them  move ahead confidently towards multiple options of employment, self-employment and higher education.
